Viktorija Osolnik Kunc was elected to the FIT Council in Varadero, Cuba.
Viktorija Osolnik Kunc, President of SCIT®, who was nominated by here association SCIT® as a candidate to the FIT Council, was accompanied by her Slovene delegation at the FIT Statutory Congress and the XXII FIT World Congress of Translators in Varadero which was held from May 30 until June 3, 2022.
As a first time Council Member to the 14 member Council she received a convincingly high number of votes by the electors present at the Congress. She was elected to this international non-governmental organization for the mandate period 2022-2025.
The FIT Council is the highest international body representing translators, interpreters and terminologists who are represented in over 160 national associations worldwide.
The International Federation of Translators FIT / Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs was founded in 1953 in Paris. Its founder was Pierre-François Caillé. In the years 1963 to 1966, the Croatian translator, poet and journalist Zlatko Gorjan was president of FIT. In seventy years since the founding of FIT, Slovenia is represented in the FIT Council for the first time.
The new FIT President Alison Rodriguez (New Zealand) has released a press release on the new FIT Council, new FIT members and the recipients of numerous awards for outstanding achievements in translation, interpretation and media presence that can be read in English, French and Spanish language.
Viktorija Osolnik Kunc is a graduate (1997) of the first generation German translation major at the former joint Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures (English and German). She studied in Ljubljana, Graz, Leipzig and Kingston-upon-Thames. In 1999, she became a court interpreter for the German language and since 2009 she is also an examiner for court interpreters for the German language at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia, and in 2012 she became president of SCIT®, the Association of Sworn Court Interpreters and Legal Translators of Slovenia SCIT®, which also founded. At the Department of German Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), she conducts practical classes and seminars in the fields of professional translation into German and German expert and academic communication.
